Blue Hero is the fourth work in the Hero Series, an ongoing exploration of the heroism that lives inside ordinary people. The figure emerges from a deep blue field marked with a red cross and the word HERO — not as a proclamation, but as a question. The kind you ask yourself at 2am when nobody is watching.

The figure is part monkey, part human — because bravery is primal before it’s noble. The teeth aren’t aggression. The ribs aren’t weakness. They’re honesty. Showing up as exactly what you are, without armor, without audience, is the oldest form of courage there is.

This is not a painting about heroes. It is a painting about the moment before someone decides to become one.

Jim Faris began this series as an examination of heroism stripped of its mythology — no capes, no crowds, no clean victories.
